Description

This example defines a new ByteVector and appends additional Vectors to it.

 

Details

A new ByteVector with preallocated space is defined.

(define V (new Vector: byte: 10000 ) ) Returns: none
(define X #("The " "rain " "In " "Spain" ) ) Returns: #<Vector 123456>
(define Y #("falls " "mainly " "on" ) ) Returns: #<Vector 234567>
(define Z #("the " "plain") ) Returns: #<Vector 345678>

The Vectors X, Y and Z are appended to the ByteVector, V.

(appendWriteln V X Y Z) Returns: #("The " "rain " "In " "Spain" )#("falls " "mainly " "on" )#("the " "plain" )

Notes and Hints

An alternative to appendWriteln is:

(setq W (append X Y Z ))

W has the Value "The rain In Spain falls mainly on the plain."

The appendWriteln function will be much faster than the append function in cases where a large number of items need to be appended. The append function requests space before every append action. When large, frequent requests are made, garbage collection can slow the system. The appendWriteln function uses the preallocated space in the Byte Vector, so it is faster.
