Description

This example defines a method to be associated with the employee object type as defined in the previous example. Such method is invoked by an object of the employee type.

 

Details

The Structure name "employee" is defined.

(defineStructure employee: name: job: salary:) Returns: employee

Defines the employee object, Z.

(define Z (new employee: name: "John Doe" job: "CEO" salary: 100000 ) ) Returns: employee

Define a method for the employee object to give an employee a raise in salary.

(defmethod employee: raise(e r) (setq e.salary (+ e.salary r))) Returns: #<Dictionary 173577>

Give John Doe a raise = $11,000 by invoking the raise method

(send raise: Z 11000) Returns: employee

The properties of Z, an "employee" object type are displayed.

(display Z.name) Returns: John Doe
(display Z.name) Returns: CEO

The salary of John Does is increased from 100000 to 111000.

(display Z.salary) Returns: 111000

Notes and Hints

To view the entry in the methods Dictionary created by the defmethod function, you can use the method name to access the dictionary entry by

#<Dictionary 5678>[methodName] Returns the Lambda.

Or to retrieve the methodName:

(ref (methodsOf employee: ) 0 0)

Returns the method name.
