Example Date defmethod 015

 

 

Description

This example defines a method named monthName that is invoked when the Number type receives a getMonth message. The monthName method prints out the current full month name string.

 

Details

Add a message named getMonth to the Date Methods Dictionary.

(defmethod Date: getMonth (a) (ref #("January" "February" "March" "April" "May" "June" "July" "August" "September" "October" "November" "December")) (sub1 (month a ) ) ) ;end monthName method Returns: #&60Dictionary 123456>

If the Date type is sent the getMonth message, the Lambda created by the defmethod macro is invoked to return the month name string for the Date value provided. To invoke the Lambda that responds to the getMonth message, issue the following statement:

(send getMonth: #Jan,1,1996 ) Returns: January

Alternatively, the Lambda may be invoked using the following syntax:

(getMonth: #Jan,1,1996 ) Returns: January
