Example Void addMethod 009

 

 

Description

This example defines a method named AddError that is invoked when the Void type receives an Add message. The AddError method simply displays an error message. The logic behind the error message is that the Void type, or the #void constant cannot be used as an operand in a binary add.

 

Details

Define the AddError method:

(defun AddError (a b) writeln "Error: Adding to Void is Invalid") Returns: #<Lambda 123456>

Install the AddError method and the message named Add in the Void Methods Dictionary .

(addMethod Void: Add: AddError) Returns: #<Dictionary 123456>

To invoke the Lambda that responds to the Add message, issue the following statement:

(send Add: X 1) Returns: Error: Adding to Void is Invalid

Alternatively, the Lambda may be invoked using the following syntax:

(Add: X 1) Returns: Error: Adding to Void is Invalid
