Overview

The var function computes the variance of a population based on a sample of values specified in the argument list. Variance measures the spread or variation of values from the mean. The standard deviation of a population sample is the square root of the variance of that sample.

Usage

The var function is useful for determining if, and determining how much, a sample of values is different from the mean of the values.

 

Syntax

Expression: (var arg1 arg2 ...)
